dds502 asked:

I wonder why the tips of the leaves of my indoor cactus plant curl and eventually turn black. Is this due to too much water or lack of it? I don’t know the variety of this plant but it’s the type of cactus smooth leaves and no spikes.

Watch the weather in Phoenix AZ, water it only, when it rains there.

probably watering it too much, make sure its getting enough light. i mean a cactus has to be one of the easiest plants in the world to care for. just ignore it lol.

Sounds like one I used to have. I had success watering it about once a month and keeping it close to a window.

you can set it out side and let is water from the rain about once a month. you dont need to water them very often at all. matter of fact the grow better if you forget about them

    cactus

maybe once every 2-3 weeks in winter and once a week
    in summer.
remember they are succulents and hold water.
Never let the earth they are in become sodden.
Make sure they are draining well
if they become sodden re-pot them in fresh potting compound and give only a little water

you probably water your cactus too much. cactus don’t need much water, that’s why they grow in the hot, humid dry weather. look at the cactus that grow in the desert. they don’t get much water, only when it rain. try to water when the soil is dry, which is maybe about 3-4 days. maybe you should try to water them once a week….

the black tips are caused by either over watering or insufficent oxygen and nutrients in the soil, lay off watering for a while and new soil wud be good, i suggest miracle-gro cactus mix which goes at about 4.99 a 1/2 cb foot….FOSHO!

Not so often and not so much as leaf-plants.
It also depends on the other factors, such as light, temperature air humidity.
This type of plants resits very well in any kind of environment, from -3 up to 50 Celsius, without any drop of water for weeks.
But to have a beatiful plant you have to keep the balance between light, temperature and water.
I suggest you water it once a week if light is good an d temperature is 15-25, and twice a week if temperature goes higher or you keep it in full sun light.
When temperature goes bellow 15 on Celsius scale, watering must decrease too.
I hope it will make a beautiful flower for you.
